• Latte art training course

What is latte art?

Latte art is art by a barista. It is one of the most interesting things in coffee! 'Latte' means 'milk' in Italian, so it is the art of milk.

Latte art can be done on any coffee that has milk in it, not just on lattes. Latte art can be done on cappuccinos, hot chocolates, macchiatos and mochas as well.

What do I learn at a latte art training course?

During our latte art training you will learn how to steam milk perfectly. That is creamy milk with a velvety foam and no bubbles. You will understand the milk steaming process and will be able to produce perfectly steamed milk time after time.

After you have mastered the milk steaming, we will teach you various patterns such as the heart, the rosetta and maybe even a bear.

What is free pour latte art and what is etching?

Free pour latte art is done with the movement of the jug alone. Etching is a latte art technique where you use something to draw pictures on top of coffee. For example, you could use the tip of a thermometer to draw a pattern on top of a coffee.

During the latte art course we will mostly teach you free pouring techniques yet we can demonstrate some etching as well.

How, when and where is the course held?

Please have a look at the barista training course information for the locations. If you come over to us then the cost of the course is only £85.00 per person and lasts 3 to 4 hours.

All latte art courses are scheduled on-demand any day during the week.

Why is latte art important?

So many reasons really. First of all, it makes the cappuccinos and lattes look very tasty. And looks do matter, we all know that deep inside somewhere.

Latte art also makes making coffee more fun. It is a great way to motivate baristas to learn more and to improve on their skills.

Serving latte art in your coffee business will impress your customers. It leaves an impression and shows that you care about what kind of coffee you are serving.

And finally, latte art promotes the hard work that baristas do.

SAB JollyWe have a new machine on offer and is now on display at our training centre in Halifax. We are using this for the training courses and actually really like. Great price and very easy to use.

This espresso machine is the SAB Jolly and comes with a grind on demand Anfim coffee grinder.

Barista training"My partner and I had a wonderful Valentine's Barista training session at Absolute Coffee last Sunday in Halifax. Our trainer, Youri, was very friendly and taught us all about the coffee making process with infectious enthusiasm and good humour. After a very interesting talk-through on the lifecycle of coffee from the bean to the cup we got stuck in and started making our first espressos.

Due to Youri's very clear instruction and explanation on what makes a great espresso, we were pulling great shots in no time at all, with all our handiwork captured on Youri's camera!
Once Youri was happy that we had a good grasp of pulling consistent shots, we moved on to milk based drinks and were both delighted with the results we were getting. The day finished with us giving a good deal of time trying to perfect our Latté Art hearts...very appropriate for the day that was in it! We would thoroughly recommend the Barista training course to anyone who has an interest in learning how to make wonderful coffee.

Thank you again,
Cian & Niamh"
